DuaneBot

Automated lunchtime soccer — Stodick Park, Sparks NV

The soccer crew

Duane used to email us every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday morning to round up a lunchtime soccer game. He'd check the weather, ask who's in, and make the call by 11:30.

Then Duane retired. The emails stopped. The beautiful game was in peril.

So we built a bot to do his job. It's not as charming, but it doesn't take vacation days either.

How it works

  1. 6:30 AM on M/W/F — you get a weather report and a question: "Are you in?"
  2. Reply with a number — the minimum players you need to show up (e.g., "4" means you'll play if at least 4 people are coming)
  3. 11:30 AM — DuaneBot does the math and sends the final call: game on or game off
